Select Board delays warrant amid Amazon drone furor
Select Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Westborough Select Board delays its town meeting warrant after an Amazon drone backlash. The board received more than 100 emails opposing Amazon Prime Air's proposed MK30 drone-delivery hub on Otis Street, projected to run up to 1,000 flights a day within a 7.5-mile radius, and scheduled an October 1 meeting rather than close the fall special town meeting warrant before the October 19 vote. Select Board member Patrick said the emails were "a new record" in under 48 hours and cited FAA preemption limits on local drone regulation.
Resident Christine Farmer warned "Westboro will become a regional drone hub." Earlier, the board swore in Daniel Hehir as fire chief under a three-year contract worth $193,500 annualized, voted 5-0 to renew the Central Massachusetts Veterans Services District, appointed Sue McAlice as registrar of voters and Deanna Wong to the Council on Aging, and reviewed Town Manager Kristi Williams's evaluation, scoring a 3.6 of 4 composite.
