Building Panel Elects Gordon Chair, Reviews Design
Other Committee · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Westborough's Municipal Building Committee reorganized and got a detailed look at senior center design options. Members elected Al Gordon chair and Peter Dunbeck vice chair in roll-call votes, seating new members Kendra Feldetta, Steve Durrett, Dee Angelakis and Ian Johnson; Peter O'Neill was absent. Architect Joel Barkman walked the board through a roughly 14,000-square-foot senior center layout with a 2,500-square-foot divisible multipurpose room seating up to 300 people, a veterans lounge, and polling-place space for the November elections.
Public Works Director Chris Pan flagged undersized custodial storage and aging second-floor mechanicals needing replacement. Barkman said bidding the building's pool separately, as the town did previously, adds roughly 25 percent in general-contractor markup, and the committee weighed folding it into the main project instead. Member Steve Durrett called the alternates approach "really impressed." A Select Board session on funding and bid structure followed the same night, with a town meeting funding vote expected March 10.
