WESTBOROUGH — The Westborough Library Building Committee approved $859,259.51 in invoices and heard the renovation project is about 70 percent spent, with $2.6 million left to go. Library Director Kate Caraccio told the panel a realistic reopening target is "the first week of November with hopes to do it earlier." The construction contingency fund is roughly 90 percent committed, leaving $78,652 if pending change items are approved. Members spent much of the meeting on a Stewartia tree, a family donation killed during construction; member Lee Emery said "they just completely dropped the ball on it" by failing to water it, and members urged contacting the donor family before choosing a replacement.

Two front-lawn shade trees removed during construction remain unfunded, with no town appropriation or schedule yet identified. The committee voted 11-0 to approve minutes, invoices and adjournment, with substantial completion still targeted for September 24.
