Westborough tables school committee goals vote

School Committee · Meeting of October 28, 2026

WESTBOROUGH — The Westborough School Committee tabled a vote on new annual goals and a proposed school liaison program, while advancing a high school principal search. The superintendent, identified as Dr. Mailer, said the district hopes to announce a new principal by the February 10 committee meeting, aiming for three finalists and a hiring committee of 15 to 18 people. Members debated whether assigning committee members as liaisons to each of six schools could blur boundaries with the superintendent's authority, with one member citing a 1993 state-level redefinition of school committee powers.

Another member warned that gathering feedback on new homework and holiday guidelines only from committee members risked "confirmation bias." The committee reviewed first readings of 10 policy updates, mostly minor alignments with state model language, and voted 4-0-0 to approve October 7 minutes and 4-0-0 to adjourn.
