Select Board and Finance Committee review FY2027 budgets, capital plans

WESTBOROUGH — Select Board and Advisory Finance Committee jointly review FY2027 budgets across all departments. Finance Director Jon Steinberg presented a town budget aimed at level services, with reinstatement of prior-year cuts funded through WRTA savings. School Superintendent Allison Borchers outlined a 4.17 percent increase with $400,000 in staffing reductions and approximately 32 students in out-of-district special education placements.
Fire Chief Patrick Purcell reported $20 million in grant funding secured over 11 years and $11.5 million in annual ambulance revenue. Police Chief Todd Minardi noted the department maintains accreditation but operates below recommended staffing levels. Public Works Director Chris Payant reported a 13-vehicle fleet reduction over five years without operational loss.
