Advisory Finance Committee backs teen voting initiative
Advisory Finance Committee · Meeting of March 5, 2026
WESTBOROUGH — Advisory Finance Committee unanimously backs teen voting initiative. Four Westborough High School students — Gary Doering, Olivia Stark, Chloe Flynn, and Ava Wallace — presented Article 34, a home rule petition allowing 16- and 17-year-olds to vote in local elections. Chair Prashant Ahuja's committee voted 7-0 to recommend support.
The petition requires Massachusetts Legislature approval and does not affect state or federal elections. The committee also unanimously backed the Specialized Energy Code and approved $500,000 in budget transfers from free cash: $400,000 to the AFC reserve and $100,000 for legal expenses.
